When people ask me how I decided what to major in, I immediately think of my Dad. I grew up around my Dad's business. As a custom home builder, he had me around blue prints, job sites, and construction from day one. So when I went off to college I majored in Interior Architecture at Samford University. This major required an art minor, which I honestly fought. I thought, "What am I going to do with an art minor?" Within the first few art classes I quickly fell in love and started taking more art classes than the minor required.

Fast forward a few years into my senior year of college. This is when April Atchley Art developed after my first house painting I did as a Christmas gift for my brother and sister-in-law. And yes although I do several types of artwork, custom house paintings are my staple. I love them because they combine my love for architecture, my practice of interior design, while still allowing me to have an artistic flare.

It was a few months ago that I got a call from my Dad. Yep, that's right, the builder. He said he was cleaning through some things at his office and came across a picture I drew for him as a kid. Can you guess it? It was a painting of a house!

Who knew, way back then as I drew this house as a kid that I would later on down the road create countless other house paintings. Thankfully I've graduated from crayons!

But I am always grateful for my Dad who put me on this path where architecture has blended perfectly with art.
